nanoComposix supplies NIST new nanoparticle reference material for consumer and industrial product research

May 04, 2016

SAN DIEGO – nanoComposix, Inc., a company with unique expertise in manufacturing precisely engineered and highly characterized nanoparticles, announced that the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released a new silver nanoparticle reference material based on nanoComposix's silver nanoparticles The new NIST test material is believed to be the first of its kind to stabilize reactive silver particles in a freeze-dried, polymer coated, nanoparticle cake for long-term storage. Nanoparticulate silver has a variety of uses including for a highly effective bactericide and is one of the most widely used nanomaterials in consumer products. These consumer products include socks and shoe liners (to reduce odor), stain-resistant fabrics, coatings for handrails and keyboards, and many other applications.  To view details: nanocomposix.com and nist.gov/mml/mmsd/silver-030315.cfm.

Silver nanoparticles from nanoComposix have extraordinary properties at the nanoscale that are enabling a wave of innovative commercial products. Many of these new applications are in the field of bionanotechnology, where the strong interaction between silver nanoparticles and specific wavelengths of light is utilized for applications such as sensing, detection, imaging, lateral flow assays, diagnostics and therapeutics. The products can be manufactured nanoComposix under cGMP guidelines which are required for many life science diagnostic and therapeutic product uses. The company recently presented a webinar with Sigma Aldrich reviewing the fundamentals of silver nanoparticle physics, the effect of the nanoparticle's surface on the stability, dissolution, and transport of the nanoparticles in biological systems in both current and future biotechnology applications of silver nanoparticles. A recorded version of the webinar can be watched here.
