Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) Nanoparticle Analysis

Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) measures the hydrodynamic diameter of nanoparticles in solution and provides information on the aggregation state of nanoparticles in solution.

At nanoComposix, DLS measurements are performed on a Malvern Zetasizer Nano ZS instrument equipped with a HeNe laser operating at 632.8 nm and a scattering detector at 173 degrees.

Sample Concentration Chart

Particle size Min. Concentration (Recommended) Max. Concentration (Recommended)
< 10 nm 0.5 g/l Only limited by the sample material interaction, aggregation, gelation etc.
10 nm to 100 nm 0.1 mg/l 5% mass (assuming a density of 1g/cm*)
100 nm to 1 µm 0.01 g/l (10–3 % mass) 1% mass (assuming a density of 1 g/cm3)
> 1 um 0.1 g/l (10–2 % mass) 1% mass (assuming a density of 1 g/cm3)

* Table taken from the manuals for Zetasizer Pro, Ultra, and Nano ZS series. Modeled on Polystyrene Latex (1 g/cm3) and will scale proportionally with nanomaterial density.
