Colloidal gold, nanoparticles, and nanoparticle conjugates are used in a wide range of diagnostic applications such as lateral flow assays, surface enhanced spectroscopy, cell labeling, and color changing sensors. The strong absorbance and scattering properties of plasmonic nanoparticles such as these enable diagnostic methods that would otherwise be impossible.
